Odin was the Norse supreme god, much like Zeus to the Greeks. He's also god of wisdom, poetry, and battle. He appears as a pretty darn buff old man with a few war items: his eight-legged horse Sleipnir, his sword and shield, etc. He also has only one eye. He gave up the other to a demon for a drink from the Well of Knowledge (so now he's a know-it-all, literally).
Odin owns two crows, one white and one black. Their names are Hugin and Munin (Thought and Memory), and they fly around the world each day and report, overnight, any births and deaths to Odin. Speaking of deaths, half of all slain warriors go live with Odin in Valhalla to train for Ragnarok, the last battle. The other half go to his wife Freya.
Note that Odin has other names like Alfadur (Allfather), Wotan and Odur. You may have heard of the god by one of these.
