Dažbog and Cernobog

ABOVE: Dažbog and Cernobog.

Dažbog was the god of the Sun and the son of Svarog. The Slavs said that every morning he picked up the Sun, mounted a white horse and rode it across the sky.

Cernobog was Dažbog's polar opposite, the god of darkness and winter. Cold, famine, poverty and illness were said to come from him; the winter solstice was devoted to him.
