ABOVE: Bastet and Sekhmet.

Bastet was the very important goddess of cats. (Cats were sacred to the Egyptians.) Bastet was a daughter of Ra, so she wasn't just a furry cat-headed friend - she had a warrior form as well. In this shape, her name was Sekhmet, and she was a BAD kitty. She had a lioness's head, and she is pictured with a knife in her hand, as she's supposed to be fresh from killing Apep/Apophis, the chaos serpent.
